New Carreras Los 80's makes its debut in Portugal with 22 cars.
The new Spanish competition for Touring and GT cars and from the 80's and early 90's will have 22 teams in its first trip to Portugal.
The competition already has some of the most mythical cars from the 80's in cars that are now considered the "new Classic" that fans love each time mora. The championship have the usual semi-endurance format with two 40-minute races, allowing teams of one or two drivers.
In the category for GR2 until 1981, the competition will have 5 entries: the well prepared VW Golf GTI MK1 of Paulo Duarte, the well known Ford Capri of Jorge Correa, BMW 323i of Jorge Cruz, the mythical Ford Escort MK2 Ex-Rodam of Manuel Ferrão and the duo José Filipe Nogueira/Fernando Campos Ferreira at the wheel of Ford Escort MK1 RS2000.
In the category up to 1400cc that accepts cars homologated until 1994, includes two Fiat Punto given to Rui Silva/Marco M. Pinto and a second unit to Tiago Lindo.
In the category up to 2000cc Group A was reduced to the Spanish Antonio Maimo in a VW Golf MK3 after the popular Volvo 850 Estate of Monteiros competitions wasn´t ready after the problems of its last race.
The Group A category of cars above 2000cc, limited to homologations until 1990 is very well composed. In this category we can find the timeless Mercedes 2.3 16V of Tomas Moreno/Oscar Bartol, two BMW 635 in the hands of Rui Garcia and Pedro Oliveira/Diamantino Ferreira. Also entered is the beautiful BMW E30 2.5i driven by Edgar Moniz/Antonio Carvalho.
The GT COPA category is the most participated, admitting GT with Gr2 specifications (until 1981) or with Trophy specifications. In this category we can find the Datsun 240Z of Paco Moreno, the Porsche 924 of Pedro Possas/Pedro Silva, Pedro Bastos Rezende with a De Tomaso Pantera, a Porsche 968 ex-Spanish Cup to Lucas Gonzalez and also two BMWs E36 manned by Teo Perez and Paulo Vieira.
The INV category, for cars not complying with the regulations, also has several entries. The immaculate BMW 328i E36 of Luis Palhão and the very fast BMW 635 CSI of João and Paulo Sousa and the Volvo 850 for the brothers Miguel and Eduardo Monteiro.
Diogo Ferrão a few days before the start of the hostilities commented: "Although some categories didn't have the desired adhesion for now, 22 entries with fantastic machines in a competition that is taking its first steps is already very pleasant and opens excellent perspectives for Jarama, which being in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula will be even stronger."
Qualifying for the two races will start at 14.55 on Saturday 08 May. On Sunday, the first race will be at 9.10am while the second race is scheduled for 2.55pm on May 9.
