Carrera Los 80's to grow in 2023

Updated: Jun 1, 2023

  • New focus and extended calendar

  • Back to Jerez de la Frontera

  • Two races in Portugal

The Iberian competition Carrera Los 80's, organized by Race Ready, will keep the same format of previous years, but its calendar will "grow" with two races in Portugal and two in Spain in 2023.

With the same Iberian Historic Endurance spirit of the "3 C's" - No Cheating, No Crashing, No Complaining - and with a format very similar to the one successfully implemented, these races offer a competition where, above all, drivers can enjoy driving these racing cars in a pleasant atmosphere. The semi-endurance format remains unchanged, with two 40-minute races, with a compulsory pit stop, allowing teams of one or two drivers per car.

Touring and GT cars of different generations form a starting grid that captures some of the racing imagery of another era, taking us back to the eighties and early nineties, when touring car racing captivated brands and fans, the mono-brand trophies were gaining popularity and GT racing was taking the first steps towards its revival.

The season kicks off on the Algarve Welcome Spring weekend, on 6 and 7 May, in an event promoted by Race Ready and on one of the favourite stages for drivers and teams, the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve "rollercoaster".

After the opening event in Portugal, the competition heads to Spain for two races. The Circuito del Jarama, which holds the record for participants with more than 20 teams entered in 2022, is once again an obligatory stop on the itinerary as the track on the outskirts of Madrid is one of the historic racing circuits on the Iberian Peninsula and, for many, the most eagerly awaited race of the season.

After a year's absence, the Carrera Los 80's squad returns to the Jerez-Ángel Nieto circuit to face a track that includes low, medium and high speed corners, at a time of year that is inviting for motorsport.

The season will come to an end at the Autódromo do Estoril, the first permanent circuit built in mainland Portugal and a much cherished home by many with two races within the programme of the 250km Estoril weekend.

For Diogo Ferrão, CEO of Race Ready, "there is a huge potential in Carrera Los 80's and we want to emulate the spirit of Historic Endurance in these races. In 2023 we will redouble our focus on this competition that is disputed with cars that have a very special meaning for their owners and that give an enormous pleasure to drive. At the same time, they are from an era where some of the most outstanding cars in Touring Endurance racing were produced and are greatly applauded by the public and spectators."
